Super Simple Cola Braised Pork Belly (Cola Suyuk)

Looking for an easy yet flavorful way to enjoy pork belly?
Cola Suyuk is a surprisingly simple Korean-style boiled pork dish made with cola and soy sauce instead of the usual spices. The sweetness of cola tenderizes the meat while adding a rich, savory glaze — making it soft, juicy, and slightly caramelized without any complicated prep.

This version uses CJ Prime’s Pork Belly (Skin-On), perfect for those who love melt-in-your-mouth texture and deep flavor.

Ingredients

  • CJ Prime Pork Belly (Skin-On) – 5lb (≈2.3kg)

  • Cola — about 2.3 L (same amount as the meat weight)

  • Soy sauce — about 750 ml (cola : soy sauce = 3 : 1 ratio)

  • Whole garlic cloves — 10 to 15

  • Onion — 2 large

  • Whole black peppercorns — 15 to 20

Instructions

  1. Combine everything in a pot.
Place the pork belly, cola, soy sauce, onion, garlic, and black pepper in a deep pot.
(Add a bit of water if you want more broth.)

  2. Boil, then simmer.
Bring to a boil over high heat for 15 minutes.
Reduce to medium and simmer for about 40 minutes.

  3. Rest and slice.
Turn off the heat, cover, and let it rest for 20 minutes.
Slice into bite-sized pieces and serve warm.

 Tips

  • The fat layer of pork belly becomes deliciously tender and flavorful.

  • Adjust soy sauce if you prefer a lighter taste.

  • Serve with ssamjang, salted shrimp, or fresh garlic and chili for a traditional Korean pairing.

  • Enjoy it hot or chilled — when cold, the texture becomes pleasantly chewy!
